That said, I do sometimes seem to have subtle perspective matrix issues occasionally depending on the game (like turning my head causes some things to be drawn where the perspective seems. There's a slider that refers to 3D Strength, my belief is this is a "pretty-name" for how far apart should the translation matrices be when they're both rendered - the further apart they are, the stronger the 3D and thus the further or closer something may appear. In other words, it is directly manipulating the matrices the game uses to draw itself as pancake so that depth perception can be perceived. In other words, it latches the functions games use (Direct3D part of DirectX) for 3D, manipulates the camera's translation (game-dev terminology for position) matrix, twice (once for each eye) and has the game render both of those, and then it places them respectively into each eye display in your hmd.

From my understanding of how it works, at least as far as the G3D driver mode is, and maybe Ralf (developer of VorpX) can chime in on this if he's reading this, is, it works by providing a proxy driver for 3D. Eventually, I learned through lots of reading and finding a post somewhere, that that wasn't the case and I can confirm from first-hand experience that, yes it DOES have a theatre type of mode in it, but that's not why it has the claim of 3D that it does. It's why I was so reluctant to buying it initially. Initially, I thought VorpX's claim to 3D was to just display it on a virtual screen in theatre mode as well. If the game you're trying to use is still looking pancake, it's likely due to a setting you (or for whatever reason VorpX itself) has set in the in-game VorpX overlay.

If you're looking to play something like Arma 3 in full VR 3D, probably not gonna happen. But I felt New Vegas was pretty refined once you made some minor adjustments to it's settings and since I'm absolutely in love with that game, it felt like it was worth the purchase once I got it up and running. It's definitely not the best if you're using a game that's not supported by DirectVR. That game is just amazing in 3D.ĮDIT: Here's a compatibility list to see which games are fully supported(Direct VR games have the best adjustments for VR)ĮDIT2: Seem to be getting some downvotes here. The most recent one being The Darkness II. There are glitches here and there but it opened up a lot of replay-ability for me for other games. (full 3D with minimal glitches, actually feels pretty close to a native VR if you use 1920x1440 resolution) If you're a fan of Fallout New Vegas, I think that is worth the price tag alone as it has full direct VR support. I was in the same position as you and just said fuck it and bought it. Welcome to /r/Oculus, a place for Oculus fans to discuss VR.
